Late Rally Falls Short against Thunder

The SeaWolves rallied late but fell short as their five-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night at UPMC Park as they dropped the third game of a six-game series to the Trenton Thunder 2-1.

Erie starter Casey Mize began his night by hurling three consecutive scoreless innings. Trenton would take the lead however in the top of the fourth. With one out, Kellin Deglan reached on a fielder's choice. He scored on a Mandy Alvarez double for a 1-0 lead.

Trenton starter Nick Nelson began his outing by tossing five scoreless. Erie tied the game in the home half of the sixth as Josh Lester clubbed his team-leading 13th home run. It was the second home run for Lester in as many games.

Mize would exit after six strong innings with a no-decision. He allowed a run on four this with no walks and six strikeouts.

Trenton regained the lead in the seventh against Erie reliever Wladimir Pinto. Alvarez led off with his second double of the game. He advanced to third on an error and scored on an Isiah Gilliam sacrifice fly for a 2-1 Thunder advantage.

Erie threatened in the ninth against Trenton reliever Brooks Kriske. Jose Azocar led off with an infield single and moved to second on a Frank Schwindel walk. Daniel Pinero hit into a double play and Kody Eaves struck out to end the game as the SeaWolves left the tying run on third. Kriske earned his ninth save in as many chances.

Pinto (0-1) was the tough-luck loser allowing an unearned run on two hits with no walks and three strikeouts in two innings.

The SeaWolves and Thunder meet in the fourth game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Alex Faedo (5-6, 3.82 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Shawn Semple (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

25 Seasons Celebration Game: The SeaWolves will celebrate 25 Seasons at UPMC Park with a 25 Seasons Celebration game presented by UPMC Health Plan. The SeaWolves will welcome back former players for the event including 2016 American League Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer (Erie - 2015), Jamie Johnson (Erie - 2011-14), Brandon Douglas (Erie - 2008, 2010-13), Deik Scram (2008-11) and Rick Kirsten (Erie - 2001-02, 2004). The team will host a special Q&A on the field prior to the game with the players as they share their memories of their time in Erie.

All-Time Team Card Set Giveaway: The first 1,000 fans on July 27 will receive a commemorative 25 Seasons team card set featuring the fan selections of the 25 top players in SeaWolves history thanks to UPMC Hamot.

Fireworks: After the game, fans will enjoy spectacular Zambelli fireworks set to the hits of 1995, the inaugural season of SeaWolves baseball, thanks to UPMC Health Plan.

Fans can purchase a light-up product from the SeaWolves Team Store to watch the fireworks on the field in front of the SeaWolves dugout.

Pre-Game Autograph Session: Before the game, fans can meet C. Wolf and a SeaWolves player in the Team Store to get an autograph thanks to Plyler Entry Systems.
