Baysox Roster Moves Announced

July 26, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release

Los Angeles, CA - RHP Dillon Tate had his contract selected by the Baltimore Orioles today. Tate, who was already on the 40-man roster, will join the Orioles prior to tonight's game against the Los Angeles Angels. It will be Tate's first time on a major league roster. He is the first Baysox player to be called directly to Baltimore in the 2019 season.

The 25-year-old has made 18 appearances with the Baysox this year and posted a 3.57 ERA in 35.1 innings. After starting twice to begin the season, Tate was moved to the bullpen where he excelled. In 15 relief appearances, Tate is 2-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 27.0 innings with 24 strikeouts. As a reliever, he has held opponents to a .179 batting average against and picked up the first five saves of his professional career.

Tate was acquired by the Orioles from the New York Yankees on July 24, 2018 in a four-player trade in exchange for Zack Britton. Tate spent parts of three season in the Yankees' organization after New York acquired him from the Texas Rangers in a deal that sent Carlos Beltran to Texas.

Tate was drafted by the Rangers with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft out of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Tate played three years for the Gauchos and was an All-American his junior season. Tate is the highest draft pick ever from UCSB.

Tate was born in Harbor City, California, under an hour away from Angel Stadium of Anaheim where he will be joining the Orioles.
