New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Hector Perez (W, 7-4) worked a season-high seven innings and Brock Lundquist laced a bases-clearing single in a big seventh inning to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) to a 5-1 win over the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) on Friday night at Delta Dental Stadium.
Perez (W, 7-4) allowed one run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He left the game with the score tied 1-1, but the Fisher Cats put him in line for the win with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Christian Williams singled and Logan Warmoth doubled to start the rally with runners on second and third. Santiago Espinal was issued an intentional walk and Chad Spanberger grounded out to second, allowing Williams to score to break the tie. Vinny Capra was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Lundquist brought everyone in with a single to make it 5-1. Lundquist rolled a grounder up the middle that ricocheted off the glove of Jose Gomez into right field. Capra hustled all the way in from first base along with Warmoth and Espinal.
Reading starter Spencer Howard, rated by MLB.com as the Phillies fourth-best prospect, made his Double-A debut. The Fisher Cats scratched a run across in the bottom of the second on two singles, a walk, and a bases-loaded free pass to Warmoth. The Phils tied the game at 1-1 with an Alec Bohm RBI single in the sixth.
Howard left with two outs in the fourth inning. He allowed one run and struck out 10. Eight of the first nine outs he recorded were by strikeout.
New Hampshire relievers Brad Wilson and Jackson McClelland each worked a scoreless inning in relief with a strikeout. Jonathan Hennigan was on the mound in the seventh and took the loss for Reading.
