Late Charge Leads Erie to Victory

The SeaWolves used a late inning rally as they won the series opener over the Harrisburg Senators, 6-3, on Friday night at Metro Bank Park.

The Senators jumped ahead in the first inning against Erie starter Josh Turley in the first when Cutter Dykstra and Chris Bostick connected on back-to-back homers for a 2-0 lead.

The SeaWolves responded in the second against Senators starter Nick Pivetta. Tony Thomas led off with a double and scored on a Connor Harrell double making it a 2-1 game. Harrell reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a one-out James Robbins single, tying the game.

Harrisburg regained the lead in the third. Issac Ballou led off with a double and moved to third on a Dykstra knock. Ballou scored on a double play ball, giving the Senators a 3-2 lead.

Erie tied the game in the top of the sixth when Thomas led off and belted an opposite-field, solo home run, his seventh, making it 3-3.

The SeaWolves then got a lead in the seventh against reliever Sam Runion. With one out, Wynton Bernard reached on when he was hit by a pitch. Bernard then stole his team-leading 24th bag to get into scoring position. With two outs, Dean Green laced a single back through the box, scoring Bernard for a 4-3 lead. On a throwing error, Green reached second on the play. Thomas followed with a base hit and Green scored, just beating a throw form the right fielder for a 5-3 advantage. Harrell followed with his second RBI knock of the night, plating Thomas for a 6-3 edge. Thomas finished the day 4-for-5 and a triple shy of the cycle while and Harrell finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Releivers Warwick Saupold and Paul Voelker shut down the Senators over the final 2.1 innings to secure the win. Voelker allowed two hitters to reach in the ninth on an error and a walk, but battled out of the jam to earn his fourth save in as many chances.

Turley (9-5) earned his fourth straight win allowing three runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.
