Woes for Reading against Akron continue on road

The Fightin Phils (46-41) woes continued on Friday night against the Akron RubberDucks (46-42) as they lost 3-2. Yandy Diaz walking with the bases loaded in the 7th inning gave Akron their first lead in the game. Reading is now 2-9 on the season against Akron.

After five scoreless innings, the Fightin Phils punched their ticket first as they took a 2-0 lead off Akron in the top of the sixth inning. Andrew Knapp hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and Cameron Perkins hit a RBI double off reliever Jordan Cooper. Akron tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Bryson Myles hit a two-run single off Colton Murray.

Colin Kleven was charged with both runs as he left with two outs and both runners on. He logged 5 2/3 innings and gave up five hits with four walks. He recorded three strikeouts. Josh Tomlin made a rehab start and pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings as he walked one batter and recorded two strikeouts. Jordan Cooper allowed both runs through 3 2/3 innings for Akron.

Colton Murray walked in the go-ahead run for Akron as the RubberDucks took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Murray (1-1) took the loss as he allowed one run off four hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. He recorded four strikeouts. Jeff Johnson recorded his 14th consecutive save for the RubberDucks.

Andrew Knapp and Harold Martinez extended their hitting streaks.

The Fightin Phils and RubberDucks will play a double-header on Saturday night at Canal Park. First pitch is at 5:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 4:35 pm. Fans can watch the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 7:05 pm.
