This Week's Opponents-
Alaska Aces â (4-4-1) â LV Leads All-Time Series 7-3-0
Alaska is coming off a 2-1 win in Fresno on Saturday night. The Aces are 2-0-1 in their last three games. Alaska is led by center Scott Gomez who is playing for the Aces while the NHL is on lockout. Gomez has two Stanley Cups and an NHL Rookie of the Year trophy in four years with the New Jersey Devils. Alaska returns 12 players from last year's team including All-Star forwards Charles Linglet and Joe Talbot.
Alaska's Ace is Gomez
Gomez joined the Devils a year after being drafted and promptly earned a trip to the NHL All-Star Game and won the Calder Trophy as the 2000 NHL Rookie of the Year, finishing second on the club in scoring and helping lead the team to a six-game triumph over defending champion Dallas in the Stanley Cup Finals. Three years later, Gomez led the team in assists and contributed 12 points (3g-9a) in another run to the Stanley Cup, this title achieved over Anaheim in a tough seven-game series. Last year, he led the entire league in scoring following the All-Star break and finished tied for the NHL lead with 56 assists to go along with 14 goals and a career-best +18 rating.
Toledo Stormâ (3-0-3) â LV Leads All-Time Series 2-0-0
Toledo comes to Las Vegas for a rematch of last weekend's two-game set. Las Vegas won both games in a shootout. The Storm are led by forwards Maris Ziedins and Nick Parillo with eight points each. Goalie Scott Fankhouser leads the Storm in net with a 3-0-2 record and a 1.91 goals against average. Toledo is 0-0-3 on the road this year. Saturday night's match-up will be the final meeting between the two teams this year.
Victoria Salmon Kings â (2-3-0) â First Ever Meeting
Victoria and Las Vegas clash for the first time ever. The expansion Salmon Kings will start the season with their first 14 games on the road. Victoria has wins in Idaho and at Fresno this season. The Salmon Kings are led offensively by forward Blue Bennefield who has one goal and four assists in five games played. Goalie David Brumby has played in all five games with a 2-3-0 record and a 3.55 goals against average.
