Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Sellout! The Gladiators sold out Friday's contest against the Mississippi Sea Wolves with a record crowd of 11,355 watching the Gladiators steam roll over the Sea Wolves, 6-1. Friday's attendance mark surpasses the Gladiators previous high of 8,586 set on Opening Night when the Gladiators dropped a 4-3 shootout decision against Augusta. Fans with Suwanee Dental Care Hat Trick for Reading Certificates who were unable to redeem them on Friday night due to the sell out may redeem them for the Gladiators November 19th game against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:35 p.m.
A New Record: Gladiators captain Cam Brown tied and broke the ECHL All Time Career Penalty Minute record over the weekend. Brown entered the week 4 minutes shy of Brian Goudie's record of 2,253 minutes. Brown was whistled for a 4 minute double minor penalty for high sticking in Friday's 6-1 win to tie the record and then took sole possession of the record with a 5-minute major boarding call in Saturday's 4-1 loss at Mississippi. Brown now owns the record with 2,258 penalty minutes during his ECHL career.
The Winner: Gladiators captain Cam Brown scored his third game winning goal of the season in Friday's 6-1 win over the Mississippi Sea Wolves and shares first in the ECHL in that category. Eight games into the year, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has tallied 5 goals and 3 assists and is on pace to break his ECHL career high of 61 points set with the Baton Rouge Kingfish during the 1999 â 2000 season.
Two Tallies: Mike Vigilante scored two goals for the Gladiators in Friday's 6-1 win over Mississippi. It was the first two goal game for the left wing this year and his first multiple goal game since the Dearborn, Michigan native posted two goals with the Portland Pirates of the AHL in a 3-1 win over Providence on February 7, 2004.
Between the Pipes: Goaltender T.J. Aceti started both games for the Gladiators over the weekend after netminder Adam Berkhoel was called up to the Chicago Wolves on Thursday. Aceti made 20 saves in Friday's 6-1 win while he made 37 saves in Saturday's 4-1 loss in Mississippi to fall to 3-1-0 on the year.
