San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (March 26, 2009) - The San Antonio Rampage are proud to announce that defenseman Ryan Lannon has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the San Antonio community during the 2008-09 season.

Particularly fond of helping children, Lannon is a driving force behind the Rampage Ridiculous Readers Program. There, he and his teammates reward elementary classes that meet their reading goals by making special appearances, reading to the children and encouraging students to read more.

A fourth year defenseman to his teammates and fans, children at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital knew him as Santa Clause during the holiday season. Lannon donned the Santa suit taking his gang of merry elves to deliver gifts and goodwill to these young patients.

"I've been very fortunate to do something for a living that I enjoy," Lannon said. "For me to be able to help bring some joy to them that day makes it totally worth it."

Meanwhile, Lannon truly served - as a waiter - while supporting the Make A Wish Foundation. Dishing it up at Boston's, the Massachusetts native acted as a celebrity waiter helping raise $1,500 during an evening of pizza and fun.

In recognition of his efforts, Lannon will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Rampage home game.

Lannon is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL's 2008-09 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
