Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Sound Tigers are proud to announce that right wing Pascal Morency has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Southern Connecticut community during the 2008-09 season.

When community events are assigned two weeks prior, Morency is always the first to volunteer his time. Without question, he is one of the most popular players in franchise history, do to his work ethic both on and off the ice. At numerous events throughout the season, Morency has been seen talking to kids, reading to schools and delivering toys to the less fortunate.

Morency has taken it upon himself this season to go above and beyond the call of community duty. During the holidays, players deliver toys and teddy bears to several of the hospitals in the Southern Connecticut area. Each player is assigned one hospital to visit each season but this year, Morency took it upon himself to make an appearance at every hospital the team visited. He took the time to sit down with children and spread some holiday joy by giving them teddy bears.

In recognition of his efforts, Morency will receive an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to one of the four remaining Sound Tiger home games.

Morency is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL's 2008-09 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The American Hockey League will announce the winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award in the coming weeks.

Morency and the Sound Tigers will return to action this Saturday night when they take on the Hershey Bears in a battle for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Sound Tigers will stay on the road for the following two games before returning home on Friday, April 3 to skate against the Bears for the final time this season at 7 p.m. For tickets or information how to receive group discounted tickets for any upcoming Sound Tiger games, contact the team's front office at (203) 334-GOAL or e-mail info@soundtigers.com.
