Langhamer Makes History as First Rush Player in NHL

(RAPID CITY, SD) - The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, are proud and excited to make one of the most important announcements in franchise history. Rookie goaltender Marek Langhamer has been called up to the Arizona Coyotes, becoming the first player in Rapid City Rush history to make it to the NHL. He will suit up tonight in Manitoba as the Coyotes travel to take on the Winnipeg Jets at 5 p.m. MST.

"We are very excited for Marek as an organization, coaching staff and as a teammate," said Rush General Manager and Head Coach Joe Ferras, "To be the first player that has started his pro career in a Rapid City Rush jersey and get called up to be in the line-up with the Arizona Coyotes is a great achievement. Marek's future is very bright: he possesses a tremendous work ethic and is a great young man. We are all very happy for him earning this accomplishment."

Since coming to the Rush, the Moravska Trebova, Czech Republic native has played in three games, compiling an even 1-1-1 record with a 2.92 GAA and a .922 SV%. The 21 year-old former Medicine Hat Tiger (WHL) earned his first professional win a week ago from today, defeating the Utah Grizzlies in a 36-save 2-0 shutout victory. Langhamer was drafted by the Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Draft in the 7th Round (#184 overall).
