Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - Cason Hohmann scored twice as the Jackals received multi-point efforts from four different players en route to a 5-4 victory and a weekend sweep over the Reading Royals.
Similar to last night in Reading, the Royals jumped out with the game's first tally. Jordan Heywood walked over the blueline and blasted a slap shot past Niklas Lundstrom on the power-play at 16:03.
The Jackals responded early in the second period and knotted the game at 1-1 just 5:56 into the frame. Jacob MacDonald fed a pass up the left-wing side to Scott Jacklin, who laid a beautiful pass onto the stick of Chris Langkow for the tip-in past Connor Knapp. Less than three minutes later the Jackals struck again as Cason Hohmann buried a shot from the right-wing circle past the far pad of Knapp at 8:55 of the second period. Nick Petrecki and Jacob MacDonald assisted Hohmann's fifth goal of the season. Elmira added to its lead at 13:58 of the frame when Todd Perry coughed the puck up deep in the Reading end and Mark Bennett backhanded it over the sprawling Knapp for his first professional goal. The Jackals continued to pile on the offense less than two minutes later as Tyler Currier popped in his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Scott Jacklin and Nick Petrecki.
The Royals cut the Jackals lead down to two just 1:29 into the third period as Kevin Young fired a shot from the point through Lundstrom's five-hole. However, it didn't take long for the Jackals to regain their three-goal advantage, when Cason Hohmann hammered home the rebound at 3:15 for his sixth goal of the season. Colin Jacobs and Spiro Goulakos added the helpers on Hohmann's second goal of the night. Reading answered at 10:32 with a power-play marker from former Jackal Yannick Tifu and again at 18:38 with the extra attacker on the ice and Mike Pereira scoring on a backdoor rebound, but the Jackals would stave off the final Reading rush and hold on to win 5-4.
Niklas Lundstrom stopped 31 of 35 shots faced for his second win in as many tries with the Jackals. Connor Knapp allowed five goals on 28 shots and was saddled with the loss.
