Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday announced that the Detroit Red Wings have assigned goaltender Marc Lamothe to the American Hockey League club.

The 30-year-old Lamothe was in net for Detroit last Thursday when the Red Wings clinched the Presidents' Trophy with a 3-2 win at St. Louis. He finished the night with 26 saves, securing his first NHL win since Dec. 4, 1999, when he backstopped the Chicago Blackhawks to a 9-3 triumph at Boston.

In two appearances for the Red Wings this season, Lamothe went 1-0-1 with a 1.44 goals against average and a 0.948 save percentage.

Lamothe rejoins the Griffins as they prepare for their final three regular season games, including this Friday's home finale against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m.

One year after being named the AHL's top goaltender, he again ranks among the circuit's leaders with a 2.01 goals against average (11th), while showing a 20-15-5 record with four shutouts and a 0.925 save percentage in 41 games.

Lamothe, who already owns the Griffins' career records for games played by a goaltender (101), minutes played (5853:48), shutouts (10) and saves (2,474), is just two victories shy of tying Mike Fountain's franchise mark of 55 wins.
