Lake Erie, Albany Visit This Weekend
February 15, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club won two of three games last week, continuing to lead the East Division and the American Hockey League. With 84 points and a 41-10-0-2 record, the BEARS have 27 games left in the regular season, needing just 17 wins to establish a new AHL record for most wins in a single season.
HERSHEY begins three games in three nights this Friday on the road in Glens Falls, New York against the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Lake Erie Monsters Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Albany River Rats return to central PA for a 5:00 p.m. game Sunday. Tickets for Sunday's game are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
18 and counting: The BEARS have won 18 straight home games following Sunday's 5-2 win over Lowell at Giant Center, extending a franchise record. The streak began November 29 with a win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. HERSHEY will look to extend the record-breaking streak this Saturday and Sunday against Lake Erie and Albany.
Winners of 24 of 26: HERSHEY had an 11-game win streak snapped Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre, officially marking the second time this season that a Chocolate and White win streak has reached double digits. The BEARS won 12 in a row (franchise record) between December 12 and January 9, and then claimed 11 consecutive from January 16 to February 12. The 24-2 mark is the best 26- game stretch in franchise history.
Practice schedule: The BEARS will skate Tuesday and Wednesday morning at Giant Center this week in preparations for Friday's road game in Adirondack. Practice begins both days at 10:00 p.m.
BEARS Nation this Saturday: Saturday night's game at home against Lake Erie will be carried live in the United States and Canada on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. The game can be found on XM 204 (Home Ice Channel) and on Sirius channel 208, part of the best of XM package. John Walton, Ed Coffey and Jim Jones will call the action
Comparing then and now: The 2006-07 BEARS, coached by current Washington Capitals bench boss Bruce Boudreau, holds the franchise record for wins in a single season with 51. With 27 games to go in 2006-07, HERSHEY had just 32 wins, nine fewer than this year's team. Last season's Calder Cup champions won 49 games during the regular season, and had 36 wins at the same point in the campaign.
