
Senators Re-Assign Brian Lee And Derek Smith To Binghamton

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 15, 2010) - The Ottawa Senators today re-assigned defencemen Brian Lee and Derek Smith to the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Lee played two games with Ottawa since his most recent recall on Feb. 12, recording no points and two penalty minutes, while averaging 18:16 in time-on-ice. He has played 15 games for the Senators this season, recording two goals, one assist, eight penalty minutes and a +1 rating.
In 74 career National Hockey League games (all with the Senators), the Moorhead, Minn., native has registered 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) while amassing 45 penalty minutes. In 27 AHL games with Binghamton this season, the 22-year-old has three goals, six assists and 35 penalty minutes.
Smith made his NHL debut on Feb. 13 in Ottawa's 4-1 loss in Detroit. In two games with the Senators, he recorded no points and averaged 12:20 of time-on-ice per game.
The Belleville, Ont., native is first among B-Sens defencemen in scoring with 30 points (six goals, 24 assists) in 45 AHL games this season. Smith is currently in his third professional season (all with the B-Sens) and has played 172 AHL games, recording 67 points (15 goals, 52 assists) and 87 penalty minutes. He was signed by the Senators as a free agent on April 12, 2007, after completing his collegiate career with Lake Superior State University.
The B-Sens (seventh East Division, 22-24-3-2, 49 points) next see action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when they host Adirondack at 7:05 p.m.
