Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY - Bryan Rodney scored the game winner midway through the third period to lift the Albany River Rats to a 2-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Monday night at the Times Union Center.

Albany's second straight win extended its lead to six points over the third-place Admirals in the East Division standings. Goaltender Justin Peters made 22 saves in his return from his first career NHL action and Rookie defenseman Jamie McBain assisted on both River Rats goals to extend his point streak to a tame season-high seven games.

The River Rats out-shot Norfolk 21-11 in the first two periods, but were deadlocked at 1-1 entering the final frame. Rodney converted on a textbook power play set-up that saw McBain dish to winger Jiri Tlusty, who threaded a cross-ice pass to Rodney for a one-time finish.

Following a scoreless first period, Norfolk drew first blood at 4:16 of the second on a two-on-one rush, when Mark Parrish snuck a rising wrist shot beneath the crossbar on the short side. The River Rats hit the board at 7:43 of the middle frame to draw even, when McBain's blast rebounded to Drayson Bowman for the rookie forward's 12th goal of the season.

Peters stopped 22-of-23 shots faced in the game to earn the win, as Albany improved to 29-20-3-3 this season. Admirals goalie Dustin Tokarski turned aside 29-of-31 shots faced and took the loss, as Norfolk fell to 27-25-3-1 this year. The River Rats out-shot the Admirals 31-23 in the contest and went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Norfolk went 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.

Albany returns to action Wednesday night in Wilkes-Barre with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff against the Penguins.
