
Komets ground Eagles 2-1 in season finale; Clinch sixth seed in CHL Opening Round playoffs

Fort Wayne, IN. -- The Komets edged the visiting Colorado Eagles Saturday night 2-1 in Fort Wayne in front of a sell-out crowd of 10,480 attending the K's regular season finale at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
Tab Lardner gave the Komets flight at 6:56 of the first period with his 30th of the season and followed with his second of the game on the power play at 15:40 to send the game into the first intermission with Fort Wayne leading 2-0.
Colorado's Steve Haddon netted his 21st marker of the season at 2:27 of the second period to pull the Eagles within one at the end of two. The Komets held the Eagles off the board in the third frame to snag the win and snap Colorado's win streak at five games to close the season.
Komet netminder Nick Boucher earned the win to complete the 2010-11 campaign at 18-15-6 while Colorado's Kyle Jones suffered the loss to finish at 29-10-3.
The Komets finished with a 31-27-8 record for 70 points and clinched the sixth seed in the Turner Conference for the Opening Round of the CHL playoffs. The Komets opponent will be the number three seed which continues to be undetermined at this writing. Potential opponents are Bloomington or Missouri, depending on the outcome of Bloomington's home game Sunday against Evansville. After tonight, Bloomington will play again Sunday at Evansville.
Colorado finishes at 40-22-4 and continues to await it's opponent in the Opening Round of post-season play.
