Rapid City Wins Turner Conference

March 26, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

TEMPE, AZ - The defending CHL Champion Rapid City Rush won their second straight conference championship on Saturday night thanks to a 5-2 win at Arizona against the Sundogs. The door was opened for the Rush thanks to a 2-1 Fort Wayne Komets victory over the Colorado Eagles earlier in the evening. Colorado started the day in first place and in need of a point to clinch the title.

The Rush finish the regular season with a 40-22-4 record, good for 84 points, an identical mark to the Eagles but the Rush won two of their 40 games in shootouts compared to three wins in shootouts for the Eagles tipping the scales in favor of the Rush (shootout wins do not count as wins when it comes to tiebreakers during the 2010-11 season as voted on by the CHL's Board of Governors prior to the start of the season).

Last season, the Rush finished with 93 points, two more than the Eagles, and went on to win the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup over the Allen Americans.

Rapid City will now play the Dayton Gems in the Opening Round of the playoffs beginning on Friday night in Rapid City. Colorado will host the Quad City Mallards beginning on Friday night as well.
