Mallards Fall In Dayton, Finish Regular Season In Seventh Place

March 26, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The Quad City Mallards fell to the host Dayton Gems 6-2 Saturday night in the Mallards' regular season finale and finished the campaign in seventh place in the Central Hockey League's Turner Conference.

The Mallards will begin their best-of-five opening round Central Hockey League Ray Miron Presidents' Cup playoff series next week against the second place finisher in the Turner Conference. Four teams still have a chance of finishing second- the Colorado Eagles, Rapid City Rush, Bloomington PrairieThunder and Missouri Mavericks. The Mallards may well only discover the identity of their opening round opponent after Bloomington plays its final regular season game tomorrow.

By defeating the Mallards this evening, the Gems actually moved into a tie with the Flock in the standings, but Quad City wins the tie-breaker by virtue of having secured more non-shootout wins than the Gems over the course of the season.

Chris Lipsett- who notched a hat trick- and Brandon Naurato- who scored two goals- led the Gems past the Mallards Saturday evening. Greg Labenski also scored for Dayton, while Joel Gasper and Brandon Marino provided power play goals for the Mallards.

The Mallards' opening round playoff schedule and opponent- as well as playoff ticket information- will be available at myqcmallards as soon as they are confirmed this weekend.
