January 25, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN ---The Komets announced Friday that forward Matt Syroczynski has agreed to terms and has been added to the team roster for his third tour with the Fort Wayne club.
Syroczynski, 29, will be making a return to the Komet fold since serving stints in Fort Wayne 2006-07 (UHL) and 2009-10 (IHL). The skater made his pro debut with the Komets scoring 20 goals and 41 assists in 73 games during 2006-07 and was named the Komets' Most Improved Player of the Year.
In 2007-08 Syroczynski posted his first 30-goal season while a member of Cincinnati in the ECHL ranking second on the Cyclones to current Komet winger Thomas Beauregard who had 31 goals.
Syroczynski split the 2009-10 season between the Komets and the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL. He skated 30 games with Norfolk scoring six goals and 10 points while appearing in 48 games with the Komets reaching the 30-goal plateau and adding 23 assists for 53 points. The 6-foot, 5-inch, 225-pound skater led the Komets to the 2010 IHL Turner Cup Championship contributing 11 goals and 16 points and was named Playoff Most Valuable Player.
"Matt is a proven player in the ECHL and the other leagues he has played in," said Komet general manager David Franke. "He follows a long line of former Komets who have returned to the team at different times in their career and will be an impact player for us. I know Matt is very excited to be playing pro hockey again and to be returning to the Komet family. He will make the call when to enter the Komet lineup." The left wing is expected to be in the Komet lineup within the next week to 10 days.
2012-13 will be his fifth career year. Syroczynski skated one game earlier this season with Florida of the ECHL on Jan. 12.
Komets travel to Evansville Saturday- The Komets will play their only game of the week on the road at Evansville Saturday at 8:15pm ET. The Komets clipped the IceMen 1-0 at the Ford Center Jan. 16 in the last meeting. This Saturday's match will be the seventh of 11 meetings this year. The Komets lead the season series 4-2-0 and are 2-1-0 after three visits to Evansville.
