Titans Gamble WIth Lead, But Send The House Home Happy, Dropping LV In OT, 4-3

Trenton, NJ - The Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, held on to beat Las Vegas in overtime at home Friday night by a score of 4-3 on a power play goal from Derrick Pallis in final seconds.

The Titans (17-18-3-3, 40 pts) came out hot, and J.S. Berube gave the home team the lead just 2:19 into the contest when he intercepted a pass from Las Vegas goalie Joe Fallon (12-10-2-3, 22 saves) and deposited the puck in the empty net for his second goal of the season.

Defenseman Connor Goggin extended the Trenton lead minutes later with a blast from the top of the right circle to make the score 2-0. Newcomer Chad Langlais earned the primary assist on Goggin's fourth marker of the year. Trenton continued to pour it on four minutes later, pushing the lead to 3-0 thanks to Brian Haczyk, who roared down the left wing and fired a pass through the blue paint that was tipped home by Mike Ullrich. Another newcomer, Jesse Todd, also earned an assist on Ullrich's second goal of the season and first as a Titan.

It was the Wranglers (18-17-2-3, 40 pts) turn to start fast in the second, and Andrew Sarauer got one back just a minute into the period, capitalizing on a Titans turnover in front of Scott Wedgewood (13-12-2-1, 38 saves) for a shorthanded tally at 1:01. Eric Lampe then pulled the visitors within one at the 13:49 mark with a wrister from the slot that sent the teams to the locker room with Trenton up 3-2.

The Titans regained their defensive footing in the third, fending off the Wranglers for 18 of the final 20 minutes, including killing off a four minute double-minor and a five minute major penalty that featured two full minutes of 5-on-3 time for the Wranglers. Channing Boe finally got the better of the Titans defense, tying the game on an even-strength tally with less than two minutes to play to force overtime.

With the Titans grabbing a late OT power play, Derrick Pallis blasted a shot past Fallon in the top left corner with 23 seconds left for his third goal of the season, with assists going to Tyler Hostetter and Jacob Cepis. Pallis has now scored in two straight games, and in two big spots, after netting the tying goal last weekend against Cincinnati with less than a minute to play in an eventual shootout loss for the Titans.

Trenton took the victory despite being out-shot 41-26. Scott Wedgewood stopped more than thirty shots for the fourth consecutive game, going 2-0-1-1 in that span.

The Titans are back in action tomorrow night when they host the division rival Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 pm in the Sun National Bank Center. The team will then head to Elmira for a 4:05 pm showdown that begins a four-game road trip. The Titans will tour Florida next weekend for two games against the Everblades and a Saturday clash with the Orlando SolarBears.
