January 25, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 4-3 decision to the Orlando Solar Bears on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Matthew Sisca earned two goal and two assists to lead Orlando to the win.
Orlando opened up a 4-1 lead on the Gladiators through two periods. Sisca, who finished with a point on all four Orlando goals, had an opportunity for another as he was denied in a scoreless first period on a penalty shot chance by Gladiators netminder Louis Domingue just 5:38 into game.
Sisca wasn't denied at the 13:23 mark of the period as he capitalized on a Gladiators turnover for the unassisted goal.
Gwinnett answered with a goal from Joey Haddad 19:18 into the first to tie the score 1-1. The marker came as the puck deflected off Haddad's stick off a feed from Pierro-Zabotel past Orlando netminder John Curry. Andy Brandt picked up an assist on the play.
Orlando notched the next three goals, all in the second, to extend their lead to 4-1. The first goal came at 8:02 of the second from Chris Lawerence with a helper from Sisca while Ryan Cruthers added to the lead at 12:39 of the period. Sisca picked up his second goal of the game and his fourth point at the 18:48 mark of the second to give the Solar Bears the 4-1 lead.
Gwinnett battled back in the third period with a pair of goals. The first came 6:51 into the third as defensemen Sacha Guimond beat Curry over the shoulder for the marker. Alex Belzile and Scott Arnold had the helpers on the second power goal of the game for Gwinnett.
Forward Justin Bowers got the Gladiators within one with just 1:12 left in the third period. Bowes ripped a one-timer from the left wing circle past Curry for the marker that cut the lead to 4-3. Casey Pierro-Zabotel picked up his second assist of the game and Guimond picked up his second point of the game with the helper.
Gwinnett hosts Idaho at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
