
Komet Legend Gerry Randall Passes

Fort Wayne, IN ---Former Komet goaltender Gerry Randall passed away Thursday morning at the age of 70 after several bouts with cancer.
Randall led all International Hockey League (IHL) goaltenders during his first season with the Komets in 1965-66 with a 3.48 goals-against average appearing in 42 IHL games during the regular season.
The Gatchell, Ontario native had a career year with the Komets in 1966-67 ranking second among IHL goaltenders with a career best 3.26 goals-against average after appearing in 69 games, missing only three games during the regular season. Randall capped the year backstopping the Komets into the IHL Turner Cup Finals, appearing in all 13 post-season games.
In 1967-68 Randall split the season in the Komet nets with Robbie Irons and in 1968-69 the netminder shared the season in stints with Fort Wayne and the Columbus Checkers to close out his pro career.
Randall and his wife Janice of 46 years have a son David and a daughter Stacie and three grandchildren. Upon his retirement from Hockey, Randall became a grocery merchandiser for SuperValu until he retired in 2002.
