Condors Sign Two College Standouts in De Laurell and Macaulay
March 21, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Matt O'Dette announced today that the team has signed F Kyle De Laurell (duh LORE-elle) to a Standard Player Contract (SPC) and D Scott Macaulay (mih-KAHL-ee) to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO). Both are expected to play on Friday when the Condors host Las Vegas at 7 p.m.
What O'Dette says: "Kyle had a great collegiate career at Air Force, averaging nearly a point per game. He has a unique situation and is looking for an opportunity. We're happy we can give him that chance. He's a right-shot forward with size who can put the puck in the net."
De Laurell, 24, wrapped up a four-year career at the United States
Air Force Academy last weekend. On Wednesday, he was named to the first-team all-Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Team as he led the entire conference with 17 goals in 27 conference games. It was the second straight season that the Mission Viejo, Calif. native was named to the first-team. He paced the team in scoring the past two seasons with 36 points (19g-17a) in 37 games his senior year and 38 points (15g-23a) in 39 games his junior year. Overall, in 143 games, De Laurell scored 50 goals and added 75 assists for 125 points. The 6'1", 201 lbs. forward made two NCAA Tournament appearances as the Falcons captured the AHA crown in 2011 and 2012.
What O'Dette Says: "We've heard nothing but good things about Scott. He's a high character guy who can skate well and is very mobile. He moves the puck well and you can never have enough of those guys. We're excited to have him and looking forward to taking a look at him."
Macaulay, 22, captained the Wildcats each of the past two seasons and notched three consecutive double-digit scoring outputs from the blue line. He set a career-high in goals with 5 as a senior to go along with 11 assists for 16 points and plus-5 (+5) rating. In 2010-11 as a sophomore, the 5'8", 172 lbs. native of Winnipeg, Manitoba was awarded the Tom Laidlaw Best Defenseman as he tied for the team lead with 17 assists and set a career-high for points with 18.
In other transaction news, C Tyler Maxwell, F Nick Prockow, and D Dale Warkentin were released.
