Thunder Signs D Daniel Gibb

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, and head coach Matt Thomas announced today that the team has signed rookie defenseman Daniel Gibb. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gibb, 20, recently completed a four year junior career on the blueline with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League where he skated in 266 games along with 33 points and 249 penalty minutes.

"Daniel is another quality pick-up with plenty of potential who provides our blueline with a smart 'stay at home' approach," said Thomas. "We're confident that our defensive depth is boosted with his size, skating ability and strength. He isn't afraid to play physical and his compete level will be an asset to complement our playing style."

The 6-foot-3 and 218 pound defenseman had a career high 15 points in 72 games (career high) this season with the Cougars and served as an alternate captain for the team in 2011-12. He helped guide the team to the WHL Western Conference Quarterfinal in 2010-11.

The Thunder returns to play tomorrow at San Francisco beginning at 7:15 p.m. (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com).

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12.
