Aces Drop Series Opener to Eagles 4-2

March 21, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

Kyle Ostrow scored twice for the Colorado Eagles, and the Alaska Aces could not keep up with the high-powered Colorado attack on Wednesday night, as the Eagles beat the Aces 4-2 at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland, Colorado. Despite the loss, Alaska's magic number for the Mountain Division was dropped to three points, by virtue of Idaho's loss to Ontario on Wednesday. The magic number for the Western Conference and Brabham Cup remained at seven points, as Ontario moved within four points of the Aces in the standings. Alaska fell to 46-15-7 on the year. They had their season-long 11-game road point streak snapped, and lost three straight games in regulation for the first time this season. The Aces finish the weekend in Colorado on Friday and Saturday night, and then head to Ontario next weekend to close the regular season. Alaska will return to the Sullivan Arena to host Games 1 & 2 of the Opening Round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th. Tickets will be available at the Aces office, Sullivan Arena Box Office, Fred Meyer locations or online at www.ticketmaster.com beginning March 25. All Aces games can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD. With both teams coming off of shutout losses in their last contests, they were able to get on the board early. Colorado opened the scoring just 1:22 into the game when Kyle Ostrow scored his first of the night on a power play from the top of the crease. The Aces responded quickly when Tim Hall scored his first pro goal at 4:36 to even the score at 1-1. Colorado outshot Alaska 17-7 in the period and the game went into the first intermission tied.

Colorado recaptured the lead with two second period goals. Aaron Schneekloth scored from a sharp angle on a rebound of his own shot at 9:25, making it 2-1 Eagles. Ostrow later scored on a one-timer from the left circle at 14:34 to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead after two periods.

The Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 when Tommy Lange scored from the left side of the net at 8:04 of the third period. Alaska made a late play to get back into the game. Alex imbeault scored his 18th goal of the year from Nick Mazzolini at 14:30, and the Aces got a late power play chance to try and close the gap. However, Alaska could not get any closer, and eventually fell 4-2.

Gerald Coleman (21-6-2) made 32 saves on 36 shots in the loss. Adam Brown (21-12-1) made 24 saves on 26 shots in the win. The Aces went 0-4 on the power play and the Eagles were 1-6. Alaska was outshot by Colorado 36-26 in the game.
