Charlotte Knights News Release
(LOUISVILLE, KY) - The Charlotte Knights scored 10 runs over the final three innings of the game to beat the Louisville Bats by a score of 15-14 on Wednesday. It was an impressive come-from-behind win for the Knights, who once trailed the Bats by a score of 12-3 after four innings.
Third baseman Romy González launched his third home run of the season -- the only homer of the game for the Knights. González connected on his solo home run in the top of the eighth inning, which started the late-inning rally for Charlotte.
One inning later, the Knights pounded out six runs to tie the game at 12-12. Charlotte rallied for six runs in the ninth and then kept the hit parade going into extra innings.
With the game knotted at 12-12 to begin the 10th inning, center fielder Adam Haseley drove home the go-ahead run with an RBI single to make it a 13-12 ballgame. The Knights added a 14th run of the game thanks to an RBI single by designated hitter Carlos Pérez. The inning continued and the Knights tacked on another run thanks to an RBI single from shortstop Yolbert Sánchez to make it a 15-12 game at that point.
In the bottom of the 10th, the Bats battled back to score two runs against Charlotte LHP Hunter Schryver to make it a 15-14 game. Louisville continued to mount a comeback in the inning and brought the tying run to second base with two outs, but Schryver struck-out Robbie Tenerowicz to end the game. Schryver earned his first save of the season. RHP Yacksel Ríos (3-0, 4.00), who pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Charlotte, earned the win.
In all, the Knights scored 15 runs on 17 hits. The Bats had 14 runs on 18 hits.
Charlotte left fielder Mark Payton continued his hot hitting and led the Knights with three hits. He recorded two doubles and finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Haseley also continued his strong campaign. He went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Pérez led the way with a game-high four RBIs.
Chicago White Sox RHP Lance Lynn made his third rehab start with the Knights and allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits over three innings. He threw 77 pitches on the night. RHP Lincoln Henzman relieved Lynn in the fourth inning and he allowed five runs (four earned) over 0.2 innings pitched. LHP Brandon Finnegan retired the final batter in the 10-run fourth inning. The Bats scored 10 runs in the fourth to go ahead of the Knights by a score of 12-3 after four innings. Charlotte then scored nine unanswered runs to send the game into extra innings. The Knights then added three runs in the 10th inning.
Wednesday's game started 53 minutes late after a weather delay at the start.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Louisville Bats from Louisville Slugger Field on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
