Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - RHP Jack Flaherty is expected to make a Major League Rehab start for the Memphis Redbirds this Friday, June 10 against the Durham Bulls. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CDT.
In addition to the start, the first 1,000 fans will receive a Jack Flaherty powder blue Redbird's jersey presented by Terminix. The jersey features Flaherty's number 27, the same number he wore when he helped pitch the Memphis Redbirds to the Triple-A National Championship game in 2017.
Flaherty, 26, has been one of the most dominant starters in baseball since his first big league season in 2018. He is one of only three pitchers to record an opponent batting average below .200 (.198) and a strikeout percentage of 24% or higher (29.1%), joining Justin Verlander (.185, 35.1%) and Jacob deGrom (.189, 34.7%).
Flaherty had an excellent start to the 2021 season, going 7-0 with a 2.47 ERA while striking out 9.1 batter per nine innings over his first eight starts. He landed on the injured list on June 1 with oblique and shoulder issues and was sent on a rehab assignment to Memphis in late July. He returned to pitch for the Cardinals and made six starts across the last three months of the season.
A former 1st round pick out of Harvard-Westlake (CA) High School in 2014, Flaherty was stellar with Memphis in 2017 and 2018. He earned Pacific Coast League Player of the Month honors in August 2017, leading to his MLB debut on September 1st of that year. He made five starts with Memphis at the start of 2018 before joining St. Louis for good in mid-May.
