Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Third baseman Jake Burger homered in his third consecutive game, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game two of their six-game series against the Norfolk Tides by a score of 9-2 on Wednesday evening from Truist Field.

Burger, 25, launched his first career Triple-A home run on Sunday. Two days later, he homered again. On Wednesday, it was much of the same for the Charlotte slugger, who roped a solo home run over the left field wall in the eighth inning. After missing each of the last three seasons (2018-19 due to injuries and last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Burger is off to a solid start to begin the 2021 campaign. He's scored at least one run in all five games he's played in this season.

Making his first start with the Knights in 1,375 days (since August 6, 2017), RHP Reynaldo López was solid over five innings of work. The 27-year-old, who was activated earlier in the day, fanned eight batters and allowed just two runs on the night. Despite the solid effort in his first start of the season, López (0-1, 3.60) was saddled with the loss.

Charlotte left fielder Blake Rutherford and shortstop Matt Reynolds added two hits apiece.

The Knights will continue their six-game series against the Tides on Thursday at 7:04 p.m. with game three from Truist Field. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. Gates for the game will open at 6:00 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday presented by Hickory Tavern.
