Charlotte Knights News Release

(WORCESTER, MA) - The Charlotte Knights brought the go-ahead run to first base in the top of the ninth inning on Thursday, but the team fell just short to the Worcester Red Sox by a score of 4-3 in game three of the six-game series from Polar Park in Worcester, MA.

RHP Lincoln Henzman started the game for Charlotte and did not allow a run or hit over 2.1 innings. In fact, the Knights held the WooSox scoreless into the fifth inning until former Charlotte infielder Yolmer Sánchez changed the game. Sanchez launched a three-run home run off Charlotte LHP Steven Moyers to give the WooSox a 3-0 lead.

The Knights battled right back and scored three runs to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. Right fielder Micker Adolfo connected on a two-run double to get the Knights on the scoreboard.

The game stayed tied until the bottom of the eighth inning when Christin Stewart doubled home the go-ahead run to give the WooSox a 4-3 lead. Stewart's double came off Charlotte RHP Yacksel Ríos (3-1, 3.68), who was saddled with the game three loss.

In the ninth, the Knights mounted a comeback and had runners on first and second base with two outs. Charlotte left fielder Blake Rutherford struck out swinging, however, to end the game.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jiménez continued his rehab assignment with the Knights and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jimenez, who was added to Chicago's 60-day Injured List earlier in the day, now has four hits over his last three games. Outfielder Logan Glass was promoted to the Knights from Kannapolis (A) before the game and went 0-for-1 at the plate as a pinch-hitter in the ninth for Charlotte.

With Thursday's loss, the Knights have now dropped the first three games of the series to the WooSox.

The Knights will continue the six-game series in Worchester, MA against the Worcester Red Sox at Polar Park on Friday night with a 6:45 p.m. game. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
