Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, OH.: Garrett Hill twirled his second straight scoreless start for the Mud Hens, but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders tacked single runs on the board in the seventh and the eighth innings to defeat Toledo, 2-0, in a fantastic pitcher's duel at Fifth Third Field on Friday evening.
Hill pieced together his finest outing of the 2022 season, firing five scoreless innings in a start for the first time since he threw six scoreless on September 1 of last year with Erie. He scattered three hits and five punch outs while not factoring in the decision. He has now thrown nine straight scoreless innings for Toledo, spanning parts of his past three starts.
Ryan Weber led a RailRiders staff that held the Mud Hens to just two hits on the evening. He fanned four hitters over 3 and and 1/3's frames. Shane Greene struck out both batters he faced. Matt Krook (3-6) racked up eight Ks over the final five stanzas to earn the win.
Miguel Andujar blasted his sixth homer of the season to lead off the seventh inning opposite Sam Howard (0-2), breaking Scranton/Wilkes-Barre onto the board, 1-0.
The RailRiders grabbed a key insurance tally in the eighth on an RBI double from Estevan Florial, plating Max McDowell, for a 2-0 advantage.
Bryan Garcia came on in that eighth frame for the Mud Hens and picked up two key strikeouts with the bases loaded to limit the damage. He also set down Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in order in the ninth.
John Valente stayed hot at the dish, going 1-3 to extend his hitting streak to four games. He has eight hits in his last 14 at-bats, maintaining a .571 average over this stretch.
NEXT UP: Toledo takes on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the fifth game of the six-game set on Saturday evening, starting with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
