Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls (38-32) defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (37-33) 4-2 on Friday to extend their lead in the six-game set 3-1 at 121 Financial Ballpark. With the win, the Bulls clinch at least a share of the series.
The Bulls got on the board first in the opening inning as 3B Jim Haley used an RBI groundout to get the early lead. Jacksonville would come alive in the second inning after 3B Charles Leblanc tattooed a two-run homer to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 2-1.
Durham responded in the third inning as DH Wander Franco connected on an RBI single to even the score at two. Later in the inning, Xavier Edwards used an RBI groundout to give the Bulls the lead. In the ninth, Haley would score on a Jacksonville fielding error, scoring an insurance run for the 4-2 lead.
The Durham pitching staff had an outstanding outing as the lineup of Luke Bard, Kevin Herget, Joel Peguero, and Chris Muller surrendered two runs on nine hits, while ringing up nine strikeouts. Herget remained undefeated on the season (4-0) as he picked up the win after five innings of work, allowing no runs on seven hits and recording four strikeouts, with Muller notching the save.
The Bulls continue their two-week road trip on Saturday for game five against the Jumbo Shrimp. LHP Ryan Yarbrough is expected to start for Durham and RHP Nick Neidert is expected to start for Jacksonville. First pitch is slated for 6:35 pm
