Bisons Walk-Off Saints for Third Comeback Win in Four Games

Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY - For the third time in four nights, the Buffalo Bisons used a late-game rally to come from behind and defeat the St. Paul Saints, this time doing so with a 5-4 win in extras on Friday night from Sahlen Field.

It was a bit of a sloppy start for both sides, as the Saints scored off a passed ball in the top of the second to open the scoring, only for the Herd to score three unearned runs in the bottom half.

A sky-high infield pop-up that would've ended the inning was dropped by third baseman Jermaine Palacios, allowing Cullen Large to score from second. Chavez Young then singled up the middle to bring home two more runs and take a 3-1 lead.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Gabriel Ponce would allow back-to-back home runs - a two-run blast by John Andreoli followed by a solo shot by Spencer Steer - in the fourth which put St. Paul up 4-3.

Tayler Saucedo followed Ponce and had a perfect inning of work, striking out a pair of batters on just 10 pitches before Joe Biagini came on and threw two shutout innings.

Eric Yardley became the fifth Bison pitcher to work an inning when he came on in the eighth and was aided by some great defence behind him: Logan Warmoth threw out a runner at the plate on a grounder before Stevie Berman threw out Palacios trying to steal second for the third time in the game.

The Herd tied it up in the bottom half when Jordan Groshans delivered a huge two-out single that cashed in Nathan Lukes. The score would remain tied through the ninth, sending the game to extras for the seventh time this season.

After Graham Spraker kept things tied in the top of the 10th, Nathan Lukes singled through the right side in to lead off the bottom half, allowing the speedy Young to slide in just ahead of the tag to complete the comeback win.

The Bisons and Saints will continue their series tomorrow evening, with Thomas Hatch set to face former Blue Jay and Bison Aaron Sanchez.

The Herd saw Sanchez earlier in the year when he was pitching for Rochester, but he has since been released by the Nationals after a stint in their big-league rotation before signing a minor league deal with the Twins. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. EST.
