Charlotte Knights News Release

(PAWTUCKET, RI) --The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of their three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 6-1 on Friday night from McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak against the PawSox this season for the Knights.

Outfielder Eloy Jiménez led the way for the Knights offensively with three hits. The 21-year-old slugger, who is ranked as the top prospect in the Chicago White Sox system, went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. He extended his hit streak to seven consecutive games and has 15 total hits over that span.

Charlotte RHP Jordan Stephens (3-4, 4.36) was saddled with the loss after he allowed six runs on five hits over just 2.2 innings pitched. The Charlotte bullpen was solid as RHP Rob Scahill (2.1 IP), RHP Ryan Burr (1.0 IP), and RHP Ian Hamilton (2.0 IP) combined to hold the PawSox scoreless over the final 5.1 innings.

The Knights scored their one and only run of the game in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Jiménez. The Knights tallied a total of five hits on the night. First baseman Matt Skole and second baseman Jake Elmore had one hit apiece.

Pawtucket RHP Chandler Shepherd (5-7, 4.07) earned the win, while RHP Fernando Rodriguez Jr. notched his second save of the season.

The Knights will continue their three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox (Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) on Saturday night.
