
Dominguez, Robles Power Chiefs in Comeback Win over Bulls

Durham, NC - The Syracuse Chiefs came back from deficits of 3-0 after one, 7-3 after two and 8-7 after five innings to beat the Durham Bulls, 10-8, in a Friday night slugfest at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Chris Dominguez went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs, and Victor Robles tallied three hits including a home run in his first game off the Disabled List. The Chiefs held the Bulls to just one run and four hits after the second inning.
Syracuse (42-62) trailed, 8-7, entering the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Pedro Severino crushed a ball over the left-field fence to tie the game for the third time, 8-8.
The Chiefs took their first lead and scored the game's decisive runs in the eighth. Tuffy Gosewisch led off with a single. Then Dominguez, at that point a triple shy of the cycle, doubled high off the 32-foot high left-field wall to put runners on second and third base. Drew Ward followed with a single, bringing home Gosewisch to give Syracuse a 9-8 edge. Robles followed with a single off the left-field fence, scoring Dominguez for a 10-8 Chiefs lead.
Durham (59-44) jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning off Syracuse starting pitcher Brady Dragmire. With one out, Christian Arroyo singed. Brandon Lowe followed with a single up the middle that put runners on the corners. Brandon Snyder then grounded out to shortstop, but Lowe moved to second base, and Arroyo scored for a 1-0 Bulls lead. Justin Williams followed with a double that brought home Lowe to give Durham a 2-0 edge. Jason Coats also doubled, scoring Williams from second to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
Syracuse responded with a trio of runs in the top of the second against Durham starter Jake Faria. With two outs, Bengie Gonzalez singled and Gosewisch walked to place runners at first and second. Dominguez followed by hammering a pitch over the left-center-field wall for a three-run home run that tied the game, 3-3.
The Bulls regained the lead in the bottom of the second. Rob Refsnyder worked a walk to lead off the frame. After a Micah Johnson fly out, Velazquez hit a two-run homer to right field to put Durham in from, 5-3. Arroyo then doubled to left field. Lowe followed with Durham's second two-run homer of the inning, this one giving the Bulls a 7-3 advantage.
The Chiefs scored again with the long ball in the third. Robles led off the inning with a solo home run to left field that trimmed the Bulls lead to three, 7-4.
Syracuse chipped the Durham edge in the fourth. With one out, Gonzalez reached on a bunt for a single. Two batters later, Dominguez doubled to center field, scoring Gonzalez from first to make it a 7-5 game.
The Chiefs tied the game in the top of the fifth. Robles led off with a double and moved to second base on a Stevenson sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Yadiel Hernandez singled to plate Robles and cut the Bulls advantage to one, 7-6. Hernandez then scored on a Severino double to right-center field, tying the game, 7-7.
Durham leaped back in from in the bottom of the fifth. Snyder led off with another Bulls home run to right field. That homer was the third of the game for Durham and it gave the Bulls an 8-7 edge.
The Chiefs and Bulls continue their series Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Phillips Valdez is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite RHP Ryan Weber for Durham.
