Charlotte Knights News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) - The Charlotte Knights dropped both games of Thursday's doubleheader against the Buffalo Bisons from Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY. Charlotte fell to Buffalo by a score of 7-3 in game one and by a score of 4-2 in game two.

The Bisons used solid pitching in both games to come away with two wins over the Knights on Thursday. Buffalo's game one starter Randy Wolf - a 15-year major league veteran - allowed three runs on four hits for the complete game victory. Wolf (5-1, 2.70) tossed all seven innings of game one and struck-out six batters for his fifth win of the season.

Buffalo catcher Josh Thole went 1-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to power the club's offense in game one. Buffalo combined on just five hits en route to the game one victory.

Scott Carroll (3-2, 2.67) started game one for Charlotte and allowed seven runs (four earned) on five hits over five innings. Carroll, who was saddled with his first loss with Charlotte since April 12, walked five batters and struck-out one. He allowed four of his seven runs in the first inning.

In game two, Buffalo LHP Jeff Francis started and allowed six hits over four scoreless innings, but did not factor in the decision. Buffalo reliever Rob Rasmussen (4-1, 1.61) gave up one hit over a scoreless inning of work to earn the victory.

Buffalo scored two of their four runs in the first inning of game two -- highlighted by a Matt Hague RBI double. Hague leads the International League in RBIs with 39. The Bisons added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning with two more runs to make it a 4-0 lead at that point.

All four of Buffalo's runs came off Charlotte starter Miguel Chalas (0-1, 8.22), who also allowed eight hits over 2.1 innings pitched. Chalas was saddled with the loss. Charlotte relievers Onelki Garcia (2.2 innings) and Jarrett Casey (1.0 innings) combined to shut the Bisons down over the final three innings.

In the top of the seventh inning - the final inning of the game - Charlotte third baseman Matt Davidson hit a two-run home run - his 10th of the season, which pulled the Knights to within two runs, 4-2. Buffalo reliever Bobby Korecky then retired Matt Tuiasosopo on strikes for the third and final out of the game.

The two teams will now have a scheduled off day on Friday before continuing their series on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. game from Coca-Cola Field. RHP Chris Beck (3-2, 3.04) is set to start Saturday's game against Buffalo LHP Andrew Albers (2-8, 4.33).
