Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Bisons were the better team on Thursday night against the Charlotte Knights, out performing their opponents offensively, defensively and on the mound. The Herd swept the Charlotte Knights in a doubleheader on Thursday at Coca-Cola Field 7-3 in the first game and 4-2 in the second.

Game 1

An early cushion and a complete game from starter Randy Wolf gave the Bisons the 7-3 game one win.

Buffalo scored four in the first inning on just one hit. The lone knock, a three-run double from catcher Josh Thole, came on the first pitch from Knights starter Scott Carroll after the righty had walked his fourth batter to force in a run.

Buffalo scored again in the second as Andy Burns stole second and came around on back-to-back throwing errors.

Charlotte closed the gap in the fourth inning scoring two runs. However, the Bisons added two insurance runs in the fifth inning for the 7-3 victory. Thole drove in one of those tallies on a ground out for a four-RBI game.

Buffalo's defense was incredible in game one. Melky Mesa made a diving catch in deep centerfield to avoid two runs being scored in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Burns dove behind second base to snag a grounder to give Wolf one of his four 1-2-3 innings.

Wolf went the distance for his team-leading fifth win of the season. The southpaw allowed three runs and had six strikeouts on the day.

Game 2

In a 4-2 victory in the nightcap, the Bisons jumped out in front early once again. Matt Hague hit an RBI-double to left field to score Ramon Santiago. Luke Scott followed with a grounder to the right side to bring home a second run.

Brad Glenn added an RBI double in the third inning, scoring Hague from second base. Caleb Gind's sac fly later in the third gave the Herd a 4-0 lead.

Charlotte added two runs in the seventh inning off of a homerun from Matt Davidson to deep left field. The late rally would come short, which gave the Herd a 4-2 victory over the Knights.

Rob Rasmussen earned the win with an inning of scoreless relief. Jeff Francis started game two for the Herd and scattered six hits over four scoreless innings.

The Bisons will have a much-deserved day off on Friday after playing five games in three days. The Herd looks to continue their winning ways on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against the Knights.
