Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats (31-30) began their seven-game homestand with a 6-3 loss to the Durham Bulls (36-26).

The Bulls didn't waste any time in the first inning, center fielder Corey Brown hit a solo home run to right field putting them ahead 1-0. They put the pressure on the Bats' defense in the next inning with runners on the corners, but stranded both.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Bats tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI double from Jermaine Curtis.

Three scoreless innings passed before the Bulls snapped the tie with two-run homers from J.P Arencibia and Luke Maile in the sixth inning. Righty Donovan Hand (L, 1-3, 4.50) exited the game after the first home run in the inning and Jose De La Torre came on in relief. Hand went five innings, giving up four hits, two home runs, and four earned runs with three walks.

Left-hander Everett Teaford (W, 4-5, 6.30) went six innings for the Bulls, giving up just three hits, one earned run, with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Bats got two-runs back in seventh due to a throwing error by Arencibia and a sacrifice fly by Irving Falu, cutting the lead to 5-3.

Durham had three hits off of right-hander Pedro Villarreal, but scored just one run in the eighth inning to make a 6-3 game. The Bats could not rally as Kirby Yates closed out the game and earned the save.

Tomorrow the Bats take on the Bulls at 7:05 p.m. The projected pitchers are right-hander Dylan Axelrod (3-3, 3.69) for Louisville and right-hander Matt Andriese for Durham (1-0, 2.70).
