Syracuse Mets News Release
Columbus, OH (June 11, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Columbus Clippers, 2-1, Thursday night at Huntington Park in downtown Columbus. Jesus Aguilar drove in Francisco Lindor with a walkoff single in the bottom of the tenth inning to give the Clippers the win in the series-opener.
Syracuse (19-42) did strike first in this game in the fifth. Jason Martinson singled for the second time in the game to lead off the inning, and stole second. He scored on a Cutter Dykstra single to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.
Columbus (32-29) immediately answered in the bottom of the frame. Jose Ramirez doubled to start the inning and scored on a double from James Ramsey, tying the score.
Those were the only two runs until the tenth. Both starters were outstanding, as Columbus's Cody Anderson and Syracuse's Paolo Espino each threw seven innings of one-run ball, with both pitchers tallying six strikeouts.
In the tenth, Lindor singled off Erik Davis to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a groundout by Tyler Naquin. Aguilar then singled through the hole between shortstop and third to win the game for the Clippers.
Syracuse and Columbus play game two of the series Friday night at 7:05. P.J. Walters is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Toru Murata for the Clippers.
