MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders scored six runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 9-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings Thursday night at PNC Field. The loss is the fourth straight for the Wings.
James Beresford finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. The Red Wings (31-28) have not hit a home run since Josmil Pinto's two-run homer in game two on June 3, spanning seven games. Rochester pitching has allowed at least 10 hits in all four games of the current losing streak.
The RailRiders (35-27) jumped on Wings starter Tyler Duffey (0-4) early, striking four two runs in the first inning with three hits and a sacrifice fly. Kyle Roller produced a three-run double in a four-run second to extend the Scranton/WB lead to 6-0.
Rochester got on the board with a Beresford RBI single in the fourth inning that deflected off of RailRiders starting pitcher Kyle Davies (5-3). Davies would stay in the game and allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in 6.1 innings.
After a rough first two innings, Duffey pitched into the sixth but was charged for seven runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. He walked one and struck out one as he suffered his fourth loss in as many starts with Rochester.
Next up: RHP Lester Oliveros makes a spot-start for the Wings in game two against Scranton/WB when the teams meet Friday at 7:05 p.m.
