Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Hens sent their ace to the mound Thursday night to kick off their road trip in Pawtucket, but it was two late inning scoring threats for the Red Sox that pushed them over the hump and led them to their 30th win.

Pawtucket kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second as Red Sox catcher Humberto Quintero singled on a ball to RF bringing around Garin Cecchini and putting his team up by two. However the Toledo offense had something to say about the lead in the third. After a night in which he hit his first grand slam of the season, Hens SS Dixon Machado followed with an encore slugging a two run bomb off of Red Sox starter Jess Todd and scoring Miguel Gonzalez.

With the score knotted at three runs a piece after a fifth inning Jackie Bradley Jr. home run, Quintin Berry followed in the sixth with a two RBI single laced to right bringing across two more runs. The brunt of the damage in the sixth was surrendered by Hens reliever Guido Knudson who was tagged with the loss, just his first of the season.

The offensive shortage for Toledo Thursday night is hard to overlook, however Dixon Machado extended his hitting streak to seven games and has truly made quite a name for himself in the International League this season , excelling on both sides of the ball. Former Tiger Quintin Berry finished the day going two for four at the dish with the game winning RBI for the Red Sox.

The two squads are back in action in game two of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm in Pawtucket. Thad Weber will toe the slab for the Hens looking to earn his fifth win of the season .
