SWB Game Notes

June 11, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

WEDNESDAY WIN: The dominance continues. Consensus No. 1 Yankees prospect Luis Severino (1-0) logged his first Triple-A win and his RailRiders pounded the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) on Wednesday afternoon, 7-2.

IT FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME: Severino's first Triple-A victory was his first overall since he won his final Trenton outing on May 26. He was perfect yesterday before he took Matt Hague's comeback single off his leg with two outs in the fourth. After a visit from athletic trainer Darren London and the coaching staff, Severino stayed in the game a struck out Brad Glenn. He faced the minimum in the fifth and left with a shutout lead, but the bases loaded in the sixth.

INHERITANCE TAX: Reliever Danny Burawa inherited the one-out, bases-loaded jam from Severino and allowed a two-run single to Hague. While his line read two scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.99, he has now allowed eight of his 16 inherited runners to score.

WINNING WAYS: The RailRiders have won eight of nine overall and stand a season-best seven games above .500. The SWB franchise has not stood that tall since the 2012 IL North champion SWB Yankees finished the year at 84-60.

GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: The RailRiders stand five games below .500 at PNC Field (14-19) and 12 games over on the road (20-8). The team has hit .282 on the road compared to a .246 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 144 runs in 28 games (5.1/game). At home, the squad has plated 111 runs in 33 games (3.4/game). The pitching has performed better on the road (3.26 ERA) than in Moosic (3.39 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.714), who have won 13 of 14 away from PNC Field.

HOT HITTER: Mason Williams went 4-for-12 on the series with a double and three RBIs. He has hit safely in six straight games, going 9-for-22 (.409) with three walks (.480 OBP).

WELCOME BACK: On Tuesday, Tyler Austin saw his first game action since he was removed from the June 5 game at Syracuse after diving for a ball on the warning track. He has gone 4-for-8 with two RBIs in two games since his return and has hit safely in seven straight games overall. Since an 0-for-2 effort versus Charlotte on May 18 lowered his batting average to .191, he has gone 20-for-67 (.299/.390/.463/.852) with five extra-base hits (three home runs) and 12 RBIs.

RISPY BUSINESS: On the series, Buffalo went 5-for-19 (.263) with men in scoring position, stranding 21 men in the process. The RailRiders went 9-for-29 (.310) while leaving 27 men on.

HOW SWEEP IT IS: SWB posted its first three-game sweep of the Bisons at Buffalo since the 2012 Yankees won three at Coca-Cola Field from Aug. 22-24. Both of the first two games in the older series required extra innings. It started with a 2-1 win in 12 followed by a 4-3 victory in 11. The finale also proved taut, a 6-4 SWB triumph championed by current Bison Chris Dickerson's four-hit showing.

RED WINGING IT: The RailRiders have lost 11 of their last 13 games at Rochester's home, Frontier Field. That hurt the team en route to a 5-11 performance against the Red Wings last season. The SWB franchise had not logged a losing season against Rochester since the 2007 unit also went 5-11. The RailRiders have lost 18 of their last 24 against the Red Wings overall going back to 2013.

OFF THE RAILS: Austin Romine hit clean-up yesterday for the first time this season...SWB outscored Buffalo 14-4 on the series and outscored its opponents 39-13 on the seven-game road trip...The announced paid crowd of 15,614 was the largest to see the RailRiders play since an Aug. 22, 2014 loss at Buffalo had a paid crowd of 16,252.
