
Pigs Drop Seventh Straight, 4-3

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-41) dropped their seventh straight in a 4-3 loss to the Norfolk Tides (34-26) on Thursday night at Harbor Park.
Norfolk took a 1-0 lead in the third as Henry Urrutia drew a leadoff walk issued by Pigs starter Severino Gonzalez, moved to third on a single and scored on Christian Walker's RBI single.
The Tides loaded the bases with one out in the fifth before Dariel Alvarez plated a run with a single and Michael Almanzar drove home another with an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 3-0.
Gonzalez (1-3) was dealt the loss as he was charged with two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three in 4.1 IP.
Alvarez struck again in the seventh with an RBI single off of RHP J.C. Gutierrez (1.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, BB, K) to give the Tides a 4-0 lead.
Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with nobody out in the eighth when Gabriel Lino (2-3, 2 RBI) drove home a pair with a two-run single, which cut the lead to 4-2. Three batters later, an RBI single courtesy of Brian Bogusevic (1-4, RBI) brought the Pigs within 4-3.
All three runs were charged to Norfolk RHP Jorge Rondon (0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, K).
LHP Chris Jones (2-4) earned the win for the Tides after allowing just one hit over seven shutout frames. RHP Oliver Drake (1.0 IP, H, 3 K) gave up a leadoff single in the ninth but then bounced back to strike out the side and pick up his 11th save of the season.
The series continues on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. as Lehigh Valley LHP Adam Morgan (0-6, 5.07) will be opposed by Norfolk RHP Michael Bowden (4-1, 1.55).
