(Pawtucket, RI) - Quintin Berry's two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning put Pawtucket in the lead to stay and starter Jess Todd tossed six strong innings to earn the victory as the PawSox beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 5-3, in the opener of a four-game series on Thursday night before 4,942 fans at McCoy Stadium.

Todd (2-2) allowed three runs in the third to put Toledo ahead 3-2, but settled in and shut down the Mud Hens for the next three innings. He allowed five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out six, throwing 64 of his 84 pitches for strikes.

Pawtucket (30-31) has won consecutive games for the first time since May 29-30 and improved to 4-0 this season against Toledo. Robbie Ross, Jr. worked two scoreless relief innings in the seventh and eighth, then Pat Light recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn a save in his Triple-A debut.

With the score tied at 3 in the sixth, the Mud Hens brought in righty Guido Knudson to relieve starter Buck Farmer. Deven Marrero walked with one out, but Humberto Quintero then struck out for the second out of the inning. Mike Miller followed with a single to left and Jackie Bradley, Jr. walked to load the bases.

Berry followed with a lengthy at-bat against Knudson (1-1), finally grounding a 2-2 pitch into right field to plate the final two runs of the game. Bradley had earlier tied the game with a solo homer in the fifth (4), his second of the season against the talented hurler Farmer.

Pawtucket struck for a pair of second-inning runs against Farmer coming on an RBI groundout by Marrero and an RBI single by Quintero that made the score 2-0. Farmer allowed three runs on six hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Toledo scored all three of its runs in the third, highlighted by Xavier Avery's sacrifice fly and Dixon Machado's two-out, two-run home run (3).

Berry (2-for-4, two RBI), Quintero (2-for-4, RBI) and Miller (2-for-4, run) each had a pair of Pawtucket's nine hits. Jordan Lennerto went 2-for-4 to pace the Mud Hens' six-hit attack.

The PawSox will try for a three-game winning streak as they play the second of the four-game series on Friday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Keith Couch (3-6, 4.73) is expected to start for Pawtucket against Toledo righty Thad Weber (4-3, 4.02).
