Knights Beat the Clippers 6-2 on Tuesday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Donny Roach tossed six shutout innings and outfielder Leury GarcÃ-a added three RBIs to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 6-2 win over the Columbus Clippers on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.

Roach (8-2, 2.75) was marvelous on the mound in his team-high 14th start of the season. The Las Vegas, NV native earned his team-leading eighth win of 2018 after striking out nine Clippers and allowing no runs over six solid innings. With Tuesday's win, he improved to 4-0 with a 0.67 ERA in four June starts. Tuesday marked his 12th start of the season where he pitched at least six innings while allowing two or fewer earned runs.

Garcia, who is in Charlotte on a MLB rehab assignment from the Chicago White Sox, picked up three RBIs on the night as part of a 1-for-3 performance at the plate. His White Sox teammate also on MLB rehab, AvisaÃ-l GarcÃ-a, launched a solo home run (434-feet) in the 3rd inning to put the Knights up by a score of 2-0. Infielder Eddy Alvarez continued his hot hitting as he picked up his team-leading 16th double in the 1st inning.

Columbus LHP Ryan Merritt (0-1, 5.91) suffered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in 3.1 IP.

With the win, Charlotte improved to 14-9 over their last 23 games.

The Knights will continue their three-game series against the Clippers on Wednesday with a 7:04 p.m. game from BB&T Ballpark. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and fans will have a chance to win PAW Patrol Live tickets throughout the night.
