Kings Still Flat Against Dragons

Clinton, IA - Offensive struggles continued for a second-straight night as the Clinton LumberKings plated just a run on eight hits in a 6-1 loss to the Dayton Dragons Wednesday night at Alliant Energy Field.

Left-hander Matt Fairel (W, 6-4) allowed just a run on seven hits over 6.2 innings for the Dragons. Daniel Carroll reached on a leadoff single in the third, moved to second on a bunt, stole third and scored on Scott Savastano's sacrifice fly to shallow right field.

By that time, the Kings were already down 2-0. Starter Alfredo Venegas allowed a sac fly to Carlos Mendez in the first inning and an RBI groundout to Andrew Means in the third. The Dragons added two more runs against Venegas (L, 3-4) in the fourth and fifth innings as Miguel Rojas and Tony Brown each recorded RBI singles.

Dayton put the game on ice with a run in the eighth inning as Kevin Coddington and Mike Konstanty ripped back-to-back doubles off left-hander Greg Moviel.

Dragons' right-hander Scott Gaffney (S, 4) yielded just a hit and a walk while striking out one over the final 2.1 innings.

Blake Ochoa and Jake Shaffer each had 2-for-4 games in the losing effort for Clinton. Byron Wiley went 3-for-4 to pace a 14-hit attack for Dayton.
