Rattlers Strike Again, Blank 'Caps

APPLETON, WI- Cody Scarpetta tossed six, shutout innings Wednesday night as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers edged the West Michigan Whitecas, 1-0, at Time Warner Cable Field. Scarpetta picked up his second win of the year, and the ‘Rattlers won for the fourth time in as many games against the ‘Caps.

Scarpetta dominated the Whitecaps from the beginning of the game. He didn't allow a hit or a base runner until the fourth when Brent Wyatt doubled down the right field line and was thrown out trying to get to third. That was the only offense the Whitecaps could muster against him.

Efrain Nieves was also strong in relief work as he tossed 3 innings of one-hit, shutout ball to earn his first save.

The game's lone run came in the first inning when Juan Sanchez led off with a single to left and Peter Fatse did the same. After a ground-out by Lorenzo Cain, Brett Lawrie's RBI ground-out scored Sanchez for the game's only run.

Whitecaps' starter Luke Putkonen was sensational for the second straight start. Putkonen (5-5) took the loss as he went 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

Brent Wyatt and Ben Guez had the only hits for the Whitecaps. Juan Sanchez was 2-4 for Wisconsin.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Thursday night at 8:05 EST at Time Warner Cable Field.
