Manchester Monarchs News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, today placed right wing Ziggy Palffy on the injured reserve list (retroactive to November 23) and recalled center Steven Kelly from Manchester, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced.
Palffy, 31, missed last night's Kings-New Jersey Devils game due to a facial injury, which he suffered during the third period of Saturday night's Kings-Colorado Avalanche game in Denver. In 19 games this season with the Kings, he leads the Kings in points (26) and assists (20). He also leads all Kings forwards in time-on-ice (20:30 per game); is tied for first (with Sean Avery) in game-winning goals (two); tied for first (with Alexander Frolov and Lubomir Visnovsky) in plus-minus (plus-eight); and he is tied for second (with Derek Armstrong and Trent Klatt) in goals (six).
In the NHL, Palffy is fifth in overall scoring; tied for the lead in assists; tied for the lead in power play assists (13); and tied for second in power play points (15).
A native of Skalica, Slovakia, the 5-10, 188-pound Palffy has 656 career points (308-348=656) and 304 penalty minutes in 626 career NHL regular season games with the Kings and the New York Islanders. Palffy joins teammates Jozef Stumpel (chest), Armstrong (fractured finger), Brad Norton (forearm) and Jared Aulin (shoulder dislocation) on the injured lists. In addition, Jason Allison and Adam Deadmarsh remain on the non-roster list.
Kelly, 27, has played in 15 games this season with the Monarchs, where he was second on the team in scoring with 19 points (5-14=19) and he had 36 penalty minutes, which was second most on the team. His 14 assists placed him second on the team in that category and tied for fifth overall in the AHL. A native of Vancouver, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Kelly has 21 career points (9-12=21) and 83 penalty minutes in 143 career NHL regular season games with the Kings, Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers.
Kelly is set to join the Kings in Phoenix in time for tomorrow night's Kings-Coyotes game (9 p.m. Eastern).
The Monarchs (10-6-1-2) return to action tonight at 7:05 p.m. when they face the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Hartford Civic Center.
