Springfield Falcons News Release

Providence, RI – The Springfield Falcons were downed by the Providence Bruins, 3-1, before a crowd of 4,437 at the Dunkin' Donut Center on Wednesday evening. Providence defenseman Kevin Dallman first goal of the season broke a 1-1 tie with his first goal of the season with 5:55 remaining to play. Center Andre Savage added an empty net goal with 17.3 seconds left in the contest. Blue liner Nikos Tselios provided the lone marker for the Falcons. Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 28 of 29 shots to earn his fourth win of the campaign. Rookie David LeNeveu made 22 saves in the Springfield net.

Dallman put a wrist shot from the top of the right wing face-off circle through traffic for the eventual game-winning tally.

Savage concluded scoring with an empty-netter from the center face-off dot after the puck squirted from a pack of players along the boards at the Bruins' blue line to the middle of the ice.

P-Bruins rookie Colton Orr opened scoring with a goal off his own rebound 14:36 into the contest. Orr backhanded a shot from the side of the crease, and, after LeNeveu made the initial stop, the 6'3", 222-pound forward forced the puck into the goal with a second effort. The goal was Orr's first of his professional career.

Springfield pulled even at 12:10 of the middle period on the second goal of the season by Tselios. The blue liner flipped a shot over Providence netminder Tim Thomas after center Erik Westrum's bid was blocked by the Bruins' defense and caromed out to the slot.

The Falcons had a couple of chances to take a lead into the second intermission, but weren't able to convert. Center Jason Jaspers hit the crossbar with a shot from the top of the crease late in the frame. Left wing Martin Podlesak found himself alone in front of the net after receiving a pass from defenseman Michael Schutte with three minutes remaining in the period, however, Thomas made the save on his backhand attempt.

LeNeveu kept the game tied midway through the third period by making a pad save on a breakaway attempt by Providence forward Pat Leahy during a Bruins' power-play.

The Falcons outshot the P-Bruins, 29-25, in the game. Springfield was scoreless in six chances with the man advantage. Providence was zero for three on the power play.

The defeat extended Springfield's losing streak to four games.

After visiting the Worcester IceCats on Friday night, in a game that will not be carried on radio, the Falcons will return to the Springfield Civic Center to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday evening and the Lowell Lock Monsters on Sunday.
