
Kernels use four-run eighth inning in 8-4 win over Loons

July 13, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels used a four run eighth inning to break open a tie game en route to an 8-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons on Sunday afternoon in Midland, MI. Jay Brossman had a 2 RBI single and Tyler Johnson a 2 RBI double as the Kernels improved to 14-9 in the second half and 46-45 overall.
Kernels starter Robert Fish allowed two runs on five hits and struck out nine over six innings, but did not figure in the final decision. Tim Kiely (1-0) pitched two innings of relief to pick up his first win as a Kernel.
Brossman finished the game 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and Johnson was 2 for 2 with two doubles and 2 RBI as the Kernels pounded out 10 hits in the game. Hector Estrella was 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI and Julio Perez was 2 for 4 with a double.
