Comstock Park, MI - The first-place Peoria Chiefs lost the finale of their 13-game road trip to rehabbing Magglio Ordonez and the West Michigan Whitecaps 10-2 Monday night in front of a sellout crowd of 10,592. The Chiefs are now 17-8 on the half and 47-46 on the season heading into tomorrow's league-wide day off. Ordonez started the Whitecaps two-out rally in the first inning against Kevin Kreier. Jovan Rosa bare-handed Magglio's 45-foot roller down the third-base line but had no throw on the single. Alex Avila followed with a full-count single, and both runners scored on a double to the gap by Joe Tucker. West Michigan added to their lead in the second with an unearned run. With one down, Cory Middleton doubled down the left-field line and advanced to third on a deep flyout by Keith Stein. Kreier then walked Justin Henry and Kody Kaiser to load the bases in front of Ordonez. With the crowd on its feet, Ordonez hit a grounder to third that was bobbled by Rosa allowing Middleton to score for a 3-0 Whitecaps lead. Kreier responded by retiring Avila on a groundout to end the inning. Peoria got on the board against Caps starter Jon Kibler in the third inning. The home team took a 5-1 lead in the fifth against Jon Mueller when Ron Bourquin singled and later scored on a groundout by Cory Middleton. The Whitecaps blew the game wide open in the seventh against reliever Chris Siegfried. Avila led off with a double and moved to third when Tucker reached on an error. Bourquin made it 6-1 with a sac fly to medium center field. Newton cranked a two-run homer to left-center for an 8-1 lead, and Middleton followed with a laser shot over the left-field wall to give the Caps an eight run advantage. Siegfried is now tied for the team lead and second in the MWL with 12 homers allowed on the season. The Chiefs added a late run in the eighth against reliever Scott Green. Samson led off with a double and scored on an error by Tucker at shortstop. The Whitecaps answered with a run of their own against Siegfried.
